Yomps Volunteer runs Bath Half Marathon to Raise Funds
Yomps Volunteer Andy Burnett will be running the Bath Half Marathon to help raise funds for his upcoming trip to South Africa where he will be volunteering on the Wilderness Conservation Project. Based deep in the heart of the South African Lowveld, Andy will be volunteering on a game reserve for 4 weeks to assist with the wild cheetah re-introduction project, learn about game reserve management in Africa, track animals such as lions, leopards, elephants and rhino and contribute towards the future sustainability of a unique and beautiful wilderness area.
A second year student in Dance at Bath Spa University, Andy has been raising funds since February 2009 through various methods including the Bath Family Run (dressed as Winnie the Pooh), raffles, cake sales, car boot sales, organizing a school reunion party and even being sponsored to have his legs waxed!
His biggest challenge will come on the morning of Sunday 7th March 2010 when he will be aiming to complete the Bath Half Marathon (21.1km) in less than 2 hours. Already well into his training, Andy runs six miles a day (even in the snow!) in addition to his usual regime. Unfortunately, he is suffering shin splints but remains confident and is even planning to run the distance in a full length tiger costume!
So far, Andy has raised £2000 and is £1000 away from his £3000 target. Should you wish to sponsor Andy, please send an email to Yomps at firstname.lastname@example.org and they will put you in touch with him.
