Volunteer in South Africa this Summer
Projects Abroad is the leading global organiser of overseas volunteer work placements. The wide range of projects on offer, including Teaching, Care, Conservation and Environment, Medicine and Healthcare, Community and Sports projects are specifically designed for the needs of the communities in which they work, whilst giving volunteers the very best experience of volunteering abroad.
With the 2010 football World Cup getting ever closer, football has never been bigger in South Africa. The football frenzy is growing and the eyes of the world will soon be fixed intently on South Africa.
Projects Abroad offer two separate football projects in South Africa. The first option involves training kids and coaching football in the disadvantaged communities of Parkwood, Grassy Park, and Retreat in Cape Town. This project focuses on football training with children aged between 8 and 15 years old on district pitches and in their schools. The second option is working with an organisation called Grassroot Soccer, founded by former professional football players in 2002, Grassroot Soccer (GRS) trains African soccer stars, coaches, teachers, and peer educators in the most HIV-affected countries to deliver an interactive HIV prevention and life skills curriculum to young people.
Volunteering with Projects Abroad during the months of June and July is a great opportunity to follow the World Cup games in South Africa and to get some hands-on experience at the same time.
As a volunteer you can also get involved with several other projects in South Africa including; Animal Care, Human Rights and Journalism. With Projects Abroad volunteers choose their departure date, the project itself and the duration of the project. The projects are self-funded however the cost includes all your food and accommodation, transfers to and from the airport, full travel insurance, medical insurance, support and 24 hour back-up from both our local and UK staff.
