Make a Difference in Mexico in 1 week! April 23 – 30, 2011
Tuesday 1st March 2011
Volunteer in Mexico with the Humanity Exchange
The Humanity Exchange will lead a volunteer trip of six to twelve volunteers to Punta de Mita, Mexico, for one week at the end of April 2011. Each individual’s experiences within this group will be beyond that of a tourist’s because everyone will be actively engaged in volunteering with the local community.
Mexico is a vibrant country filled with salsa dancing and fiestas, the rugged interior that gives way to gorgeous seascapes, and the people with affectionate hearts. Cradling the United States, Mexico bridges the gap between Anglophone neighbours to the north and a mixture of Latin American cultures to the south. This fusion combines to create an environment in which the curious traveler is most welcome, and there is no shortage of cultural meccas to explore, sports for the tame or the extreme, and festivals and nightlife to entertain.
The natural beauty of Puerto Vallarta’s jungle, beach and mountains draw millions of visitors from around the world. Delicious seafood and Mexican cuisine are offered from a wide range of restaurants. The easy-to-use bus system provides the means to explore the extreme biodiversity of the bay or enjoy some of the best surfing, snorkeling, and fishing in Mexico.
Where: Punta de Mita
Punta de Mita is a small fishing village 40 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, located on the beautiful Bahia de Banderas (Bay of Flags). On a spectacular peninsula, Punta de Mita hosts beautiful beaches, and a striking view of both the Bahia de Banderas and the open ocean.
Bucerias is 10 minutes away from Punta de Mita. It is also located on the Bahia de Banderas. Bucerias presents a nice balance between the bustling atmosphere in Puerto Vallarta and the tranquility of Punta de Mita. It boasts a selection of local shops, bars, restaurants, coffee shops, as well as its very own sandy beaches.
There is a dire need to improve social and living conditions in many areas of Mexico, including Punta de Mita. Here, you will be meaningfully engaged in improving these conditions as your Group Leader facilitates your placement with a local organization, PEACE Mexico. Your group will have a direct positive impact on the community of Punta de Mita. Together the group will donate many hours of valuable work. In addition, the cultural exchange that results from a placement enables the sharing of unique ideas and ways of life. By giving your time, energy, and talents, you will make major contributions to this community.
