Use your career break to teach English abroad and support volunteer childcare in Ecuador
Despite being one of South America’s smallest countries, Ecuador packs in an amazing range of travel experiences across mountains, rainforest, desert and coast. Nestled high in the Andes, Ecuador’s capital Quito is the perfect base for career break travel and offers a vibrant mix of modern cityscape and Spanish colonial heritage.
Inspire has a range of volunteer programmes based in Quito, giving you the opportunity to do something meaningful during your career break in South America. Our volunteer childcare placements are based in a children’s hospital and community centre, where volunteers can help to improve the lives of children affected by cancer and those whose parents are in jail.
Childcare volunteers need no previous experience, simply the enthusiasm and energy to play with the children and support local staff in providing day-to-day care. Many of the children at the hospital and community centre are unable to attend school and as a volunteer in Ecuador you can help teach basic English and other subjects.
Inspire also offers placements at volunteer teaching projects in primary and secondary schools in Quito. These schools are under-funded and many have no English-speaking staff, so career break volunteers can make a real difference to the education of local children.
Our partner schools cater for the poorest sectors of Quito’s young population and they relish the opportunity to learn from a native English speaker. Depending on your own interests, experience and Spanish language skills, volunteers can also get involved in teaching other subjects and running extra-curricular activities.
