Oyster Worldwide offer guaranteed jobs for travellers to Australia for up to 12 months
Tuesday 26th October 2010
Everybody loves Australia, with its huge landscapes, tiny population and amazing natural wonders. Australia is also a brilliant place to work and travel, and Oyster Worldwide offer guaranteed work there for up to a year - perfect for a gap year, working holiday or career break in Australia.
The Aussies expect hard work and a positive attitude: in return you will be met on arrival, set up with an employer for an initial three to six months, trained up for the job and paid A$350 (around £180) per week, plus free tucker and a swag (OK, free bed and board).
The great thing about an Australia Gap Year placement with Oyster is that you can earn enough to finance the rest of your Australian gap year, working holiday or career break. And if you feel like more work, Oyster can sort it up to the 12-month point. They will also help you with your Australia Working Holiday Visa application.
Jobs on offer fall into 3 main categories:
- Farming: tough physical work, with jobs ranging from animal husbandry and rounding up sheep or cattle, to fencing, fruit harvesting or grape-picking.
- Hospitality: usually in a hotel, restaurant or pub where the work may be cooking, cleaning or waiter/waitressing. And this now includes Sydney.
- Teaching: if you like children, there are jobs in childcare or in home schooling - still the only option for many kids in remote areas - working from a central resource base.
Oyster Worldwide is a small and well regarded Gap year organisation sending volunteers and paid workers to 10 destinations worldwide. If you are interested in a gap year in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, India, Kenya, Nepal, Romania, Tanzania or Zambia they can help.
Gapwork Gap Year Tips: Australia Working Holiday Visa
To work in Australia you need to apply for a Working Holiday Visa. You need to apply for this before you arrive in Australia, but certain nationalities (including British people) may apply in any country except Australia. You have a year from the date your visa is issued in which to travel to Australia and you are allowed to stay in Australia for 12 months from the date you enter. You can travel in and out of Australia as many times as you like during the 12 months from the date of first entry. However if you depart Australia during your 12 months stay you can not "top up" or recover the period of time spent outside Australia. You are only ever issued one WHV.
Note: It is now possible to apply for a second WHV, which will give you 12 more months in Oz. The only condition is that in order to be eligible you must spend 3 months under your first visa doing harvest work in one of the regions of the country.
