British Sisters Working For Canadian Mountain Rescue
Inspirational sisters from Oxford, Charlotte and Jessica Loveday trained with the Canadian Ski Patrol in January and are now employed in Panorama Resort, Canada as part of the mountain team for this coming winter.
Lottie says “My favourite aspect of the course itself were the practical elements on the hill – not only was I enjoying myself, everything was so informative and it gave me a real taste for what it would be like to work as part of their amazing team.
“The most memorable parts of my training were the avalanche training and the chair lift evacuation practice, which literally meant jumping off a chairlift with only your ropes and knots to save you! Good thing they taught us well!”
Since finishing the course, Lottie has spent the summer months working as a pool attendant, and her sister Jess has been working in mountain bike patrol, both in the same resort as they did their Ski Patrol training. When Jess enrolled on the Ski Patrol course she had no idea that it would give her the qualifications to work the summer months as well!
Both ladies have been offered full time positions as members of the Ski Patrol team for this winter! The sisters say, “Thanks to the training and support from The Winter Sports Company – we couldn’t have made it this far without it.”
Karen, director of The Winter Sports Company reflects on the sisters’ accomplishments, “We work in an industry where females are heavily outnumbered by male instructors and patrollers, we need more female skiing and snowboarding role models like Lottie and Jess, we are so proud of everything they have achieved.”
Ski Patrol provides emergency medical and rescue to people using the mountain for snow sports. Training and qualifications are internationally recognised and you learn about outdoor emergency care, avalanche control, air rescue, toboggan handling and much, much more.
