Community Volunteering

In this section of our site you can find organisations who can offer you fantastic volunteering opportunities and placements that are based on working with communities. This may involve voluntary work with orphanages, schools, coaching programs, hospitals or even building or water management projects in developing countries. These kind of communities may value your input as an educated English speaker, who can make a contribution in their villages or towns. If this sounds like the sort of thing that you are interested in getting involved with, then browse the opportunities in this section to find your ideal voluntary placement in destinations such as Africa, Asia, or India.

If you are more interested in working with animals, wildlife or the natural world, take a look at our conservation section.

Gap Year Volunteering with Communities

Working with communities can be a life-changing experience, where your own skills and experience are put to the test, and you can learn how to work as part of a team. You can also get a better understanding of how other people live, and the needs of developing countries.

Your contribution as a volunteer, even on a short term placement, can make a significant difference to a community if it is well organised and you understand what you will be asked to do. A longer term placement or project can really make a difference but also add to your own CV and work experience.

Browse the organisations on this page to find out more about gap year voluntary projects, or take a look at our conservation volunteering page to explore options in that area.
