Amsterdam

Barcelona

Public payphones are common, and are best used with phone cards that can be bought from tobacconists. Phone calls are cheaper between the hours of 10pm and 8am, on Saturday afternoons and all day Sunday.

Buy a phone card from a newsagents or post office, they are much cheaper to use than coins in public phones.

Paris

To call France from overseas dial 00 33 + 9 digit number (minus the zero). The city code for Paris is 01. When in France dial the full 10 digit number including the zero at the beginning.

Phone cards can be bought from tobacconists and post offices. Most public phones use credit cards, some older phones usually in bars, still take coins.

Post boxes in France are yellow. Buy stamps at post offices and tobacconists. The PO at 52 Rue de Louvre is open 24 hours a day every day of the year. Otherwise post offices open from 8am to 7pm Monday to Friday, and Saturday mornings.
