1. Take a Canal Cruise

Take in the sights of Amsterdam city by taking a canal cruise. Yes, these are very touristy but they are a great way to see the city and the different areas there are to explore. There are so many different canal trips to choose from including a hop-on and hop-off one which stops at the city's major attractions to day trips and tours to other destinations in Holland, if you fancy going further afield.

2. Hang out in the Vondelpark

In the summer months it is recommended that you hang out at Vondelpark which is the largest park in Amsterdam. This is a great place to enjoy a summers day and soak up the city buzz and ambience while watching people go about their daily lives. During the summer there are often many free concerts that take place in the park as well as an open air theatre where different theatre and music events take place from June to August.

3. Go to the Van Gogh Museum

If you appreciate art then a visit to the Van Gogh Museum is a must. The museum is home to the biggest collection of Van Gogh paintings that you will see anywhere in the world. Not only that but the museum also displays paintings by other artists for you to enjoy as well as running many different exhibitions throughout the year.

4. Visit Anne Frank’s House

For a moving testament to the horrors of Nazi occupation during WW2 then visit Anne Frank's House. This is the actual house where she lived and hid from the Nazis before being betrayed and found by them. This is a must-visit for anyone who has read the book as it is a fascinating place to visit.

5. Check out the Red Light District

For an eye-popping experience then visit the red light district in Amsterdam. The red light district is a place where you can see girls in windows parading their wares as well as home to many sex shops, brothels, gay bars, cinemas and museums which are different to those you will have seen before!
