Accommodation in Africa

There are plenty of options for the determined independent traveller throughout the African continent when it comes to places to stay. If you are choosing to go on a volunteering placement then the accommodation will be provided by the organisation in charge of your gap year programme. This could be in a hostel, camping or even staying with families in the town or village where you will be based. Alternatively, if you are opting for a travel experience in Africa, you will probably want to stay in one of the spectacular lodges which are an essential part of any safari or expedition. These have a varying level of facilities, ranging from luxury lodges with everything you would expect from a five star hotel, through to basic versions which basically provide a roof over your head. Tourist destinations such as South Africa or Kenya have well established hotels, campsites and hostels for every budget. Other African destinations which are more off the beaten track will have less choice but you should still be able to get something which is affordable and convenient. Use the weblinks on this page to find out more about accommodation in top African destinations. Alternatively research volunteering opportunities in Africa and find out about visas and healthcare.
